C25K W6D3, Vibram’s Day 16

Yesterday rocked!!  I was a little bummed that it was overcast and cool outside.  This was the longest run I’ve done so far so I was nervous and the variable weather added to those nerves.  To combat my insecurities, I took my time stretching and really tried to connect with my body and ground myself before taking off.  When I felt really ready, Toby and I took off to the “other side” of the river.

The East side of the Mad ...

C25K W6D2, Vibram’s Day 15

Another gorgeous day in Vermont yesterday!  I headed out early to The Mad River Path with Owen, my co-worker’s dog, and Toby.  The routine was two ten minute runs with a three minute walk in between.  The first run was smooth as silk.  We headed along the trail past the first meadow, curled into the woods and popped out at the second meadow to quite a Vermonty surprise; fresh manure!  For two young retrievers this was like stumbling upon a ...

C25K W6D1, Vibram’s Day 14

Woo-hoo week six!!  I’m seriously excited to have come this far, and I have to admit it flew by!  While my running has been on schedule, this blog entry is a little past-schedule thanks to an exploding work week.  I’ll try to be brief today.

Monday brought colder temperatures but lots of sun to the Mad River Valley.  I’ve definitely noticed that I labor more in the colder weather, and I caught myself looking at the clock a few times during ...

C25K W5D3, Vibram’s Day 13

Woo-hoo!  I survived the great 20-minute run!  Unfortunately, it wasn’t all peaches and cream.

My schedule was swapped around a little this week, so instead of running in the valley yesterday I ran along Lake Champlain in Burlington.  There’s a gorgeous, albeit overcrowded, rec path that follows the lake as it curls around  from the center of town.  Here’s a map in case you’re local and interested in checking it out.  If you’re unconvinced of its beauty, here is a ...

C25K W5D2, Vibram’s Day 12

I really do myself an injustice by not reading the C25K plan before heading out for my runs.  Apparently, this week is when things start getting dynamic.  I headed outside yesterday, stretched, popped in my ear buds and the polite British woman inside the Get Running app on my iPhone told me I would be running two eight-minute runs.  I immediately stopped the program, thinking it had skipped me ahead to the next week.  A few double-takes later, and ...

C25K W5D1, Vibram’s Day 11

Yesterday was my favorite run so far!  The temps in the Mad River Valley were close to 80º with a thick humidity  throughout most of the morning.  Rolling thunderstorms began flying through around mid-day and by the time I headed to the Mad River Path (deciding it was best to run after work today instead of on my lunch break) the weather broke into a glorious breezy 73º with bright blue skies.  It was so picture perfect that I would ...

C25K W4D3, Vibram’s Day 10

I am so impressed with my body and I have renewed faith in the C25K program.  This entry is very much about me eating my own words. 🙂  It’s also going to be a quickie as I’m running off to offer chair massage for charity at The Burlington Yoga Conference.  If you’re local to Vermont, come on by!  Proceeds from my sessions go to Safeline, a local organization supporting women and girls in crisis.

As a reporter on VPR ...

C25K W4D2, Vibram’s Day 9

April in Vermont is known for being unpredictable.  Monday brought 68º temperatures and beautiful weather.  Flowers have been blooming, trees are full of buds, it’s most definitely been Spring.  Color me surprised when I woke up on Wednesday to a FOOT of heavy wet white death falling from the sky.  I refused to shovel.  I had already purged my car of all winter gear (though, thankfully still had my snow tires on) so I reluctantly cleaned my car off with ...

C25K W4D1, Vibram’s Day 8

Yesterday, I began week 4 of C25K.  The program is supposedly gradual.  Last week, in the 30 minutes that I spent on the workout I only ran for nine minutes, in week 4 I was prompted to run SIXTEEN minutes; this did not feel gradual to me!  All right, I know I’m whining a bit, but I was surprised when the nice British woman on my Get Running app went over the durations of the run.  Suddenly, the “short” ...

C25K W3D3, Vibram’s Day 7

Wow, that intensive MotherMassage® workshop I took really was intense!  While I found time to run, I had zero time to blog.  Let’s get to it!

I did brave the treadmill at the hotel.  It was an interesting experience.  I am not a gym lover, mostly because I feel trapped in gyms.  It’s all very robotic to me and while I can certainly appreciate the health benefit that gyms provide, I’ve never found one that doesn’t seem dirty and cramped ...
